It is important to know the proper technique for removing a graphite shaft. A graphite shaft could be ruined forever if removed by the conventional twist and pull method that we use for steel shafts. The fibers in the shaft tear apart when you do this. In this video, I will show you the correct (and cheap) way to remove a graphite shaft. If you can afford it, I would recommend using this shaft puller for better results.
Materials Needed
- Heat Gun
- Golfworks Graphite Shaft Extractor Bar
- Golfworks Hosel Protector
- Bench Vise
- Rubber Shaft Clamp
Removing an Adapter from a Wood or Driver
The process for removing an adapter is very similar to removing a graphite shaft with a minor twist as shown in the video below.
Hey Zach,
I came across this post looking for a cheap way to remove shafts. I thought up a way to apply even pressure to the club head without using the shaft bar.
If you buy a spring that is larger on the inside than a shaft, you can load it in the vise to make the hosel protector apply continuous pressure to the club head.
So the order would be shaft clamp —> spring —> hosel protector —> club head. Of course in this setup the spring is fully compressed and applying that pressure to the business end of the setup.
Now all you have to do is heat the hosel of the club head, and it should pop off without applying any additional force.
Hi, I have been removing my Mitsubishi Oci shafts from my Callaway clubs and wanted to put them into my new clubs. I have successfully removed the shafts however and cleaned most of the remaining epoxy from the shaft. However, I have some of the shafts where epoxy is inside the shaft, about 2-3 inches down, where the drill bit doesn’t get to and I cannot clean it out and it plugs the shaft making it impossible to put the new club head in (air not being able to be released). How can I clean out that epoxy? I have been trying with a heated metal pointed rod, but nothing works. These are expensive shafts and I don’t really want to have to order new ones when I have perfectly good ones available. Any help would really be appreciated
