The Best Swing Thought in Golf

Okay, maybe it's not the only way to swing a club, but well worth a shot.

Do you think you could hit your target in golf 10,000 times in a row?

Any sane human being would answer this question with a resounding "no."

But Dr. Joseph Parent thinks differently.

He reminds us in his book, Zen Golf, that without conscious thought, our bodies can reproduce the same motion over and over. This is why we never miss our mouth when we are eating with a fork or spoon. When transferring the food from your plate to your mouth, you aren't thinking about the angle of your elbow, or the grip pressure that you are applying to the fork.

The problem in golf is that we love to think. We love to consciously try to manipulate the swing that we think we need to get the ball to the target.

I've struggled with this tremendously through my years as a competitive golfer, and have searched for years to find a way to turn my brain off during a golf shot.

Turns out, I simply can't. So instead, I found a way to distract my thoughts during the swing. Next time you play golf, try humming a song during every swing. It may not work for everyone, but it sure has helped me.
