Who is this drill best for?

  • Golfers who struggle to "stay connected" in their swing
  • Golfers who chunk / blade lots of shots

Required Materials and Equipment

  • Wedge or short iron
  • Full size towel
  • A bucket / couple of golf balls

Drill Overview

This drill is an excellent way to teach your body to "stay connected" throughout the swing and use the big muscles for more consistent strikes.

Drill Instructions

Grab a wedge or short iron and a towel, and place the towel underneath your armpits:

From here, make 1/2 -> 3/4 golf swings (but no further than 3/4!)

Hit the shot normally, keeping the towel tucked throughout.

Drill Variations

Variation #1: Headcover

Instead of using a towel, you can also grab a driver headcover and place it directly under your lead armpit (left armpit if you are a right-hander).

There are a few key differences with this variation:

  • When you complete your swing, you should let the headcover drop
  • You can do full golf swings with this variation, although I still recommend sticking with a short iron or wedge to practice
